The concepts you have learned during this process are definitely not common knowledge and you probably have other family members who benefit from understanding the planning you’ve done for yourself or your family member with special needs. Since an inheritance left directly to you or the family member with special needs could have far-reaching consequences, you need to discuss with your entire family what action may need to be taken within individual estate plans.

  • Name all the people you can think of who might leave an inheritance to you or your family member with special needs (either directly or because they are leaving it to your family line).
  • Obtain wording from your attorney to pass along to your family members.
  • Have a family meeting to discuss the planning you have done.
